Work=Vacation

Work. In science, work describes when you apply enough force on an object to overcome its resistance to motion. Unfortunately, this definition is not necessarily limited to the realm of science. Sometimes work, as in the mental kind, can feel like a bit of a chore.

After a long (as seen by my three-year-old self) day at school, my Mother would ask me "What work did you do today?" Without missing a beat, I would reply
"I’m not going to school to work, I go to school to have fun."

Kids say the darnest things.

Reflecting on this more than a decade later, I think I had a point.

Seth Godin once said,
“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”

If most of your waking life is spent at work, why not do something you enjoy

In his TED talk, Shawn Achor shares ‘the happy secret to better work’. I’d highly recommend it.

Stop planning your next vacation. Overcome the resistance and find work you’re passionate about.

  2. Dear Christie,

    Thank you for your question. I completely agree. Have you heard the saying a jack of all trades is master of none?

    I've written a blog post which relates to this question - ' The Hedgehog, the fox and finding your purpose'. http://bit.ly/1UaAdP1

    It's hard to excel at something when your energy is divided between many things.
